Monte da Penha Terroir - Red 2017

The name "Terroir" reflects our dedication to capturing the essence of the soil, altitude, and mesoclimate that make the Serra de São Mamede unique. Produced from 12 hectares of old vines planted in 1987, following the cadastre of Tapada do Chaves, a historic property associated with our family, this red wine is a genuine expression of Portalegre's character.

The Trincadeira, Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, and a small percentage of Moreto grape varieties give it a unique balance. Moreto, used in minimal percentages, was traditionally used by our grandfather and great-grandfather Joaquim da Cruz Baptista to add natural acidity to the wines, connecting this red to family history.

The label features a watercolour of a pomegranate, a symbol of ripe red fruit and freshness, qualities that also define this wine. From vineyards located between 400 and 600 meters of altitude, planted in granitic and clay-limestone soils with the presence of schist, the Terroir Red 2017 benefits from a temperate microclimate, with hot days and cool, humid nights, ideal for balanced grape maturation. With freshness, complexity, and excellent ageing potential, this wine follows the lineage of our Reservas, celebrating the best of Portalegre's terroir.

The Terroir Red 2017 reflects Monte da Penha's commitment to creating wines that convey the authenticity of the region in every bottle, capable of evolving and surprising over the years.
