The Region of Portalegre

The wine region of Portalegre is situated in the northern part of the Alentejo and is a very distinct region, as it is the transition from the plains to the mountains. The unique microclimate of the mountain “Serra de São Mamede”, with its rainy, humid winters and high tem- peratures in the summer, create exceptional conditions for the vines and give singular characteristics to the wines. The altitude and the soils also highlight this region.
